Window Coverings & Layers
When it comes to window coverings, working in layers can render exciting, unique effects. Mini blinds, wood blinds, cellular blinds, roller shades, or pleated blinds covered by graceful sheers and specialty fabric drapes create a relaxed, private setting that speaks of style and sophistication.
Of course, fabric drapes can also be layered with other fabrics instead of just sheers. Smooth silk peeking from beneath plush velvet or warm wool, for instance, is eye appealing and creates a rich textural effect.
Add sheer weave fabric blinds for a whisper of diffused light - reducing drapery fading caused by UV rays, as well as heat and sun glare. This is an appealing combination of window covering especially enhancing to living room, dining room, or bedroom decor.
Upstairs windows do well with layered effects of window treatments that use interior screen frames instead of mini blinds, roller shades, or other operable window treatments.
SheerWeave fabric interior screens made by Phifer, for instance are superb for windows exposed to hot afternoon sun. This-type interior screen is made from coated fiberglass yarns in special designs. They filter out heat, protect room furnishings from bright light and harmful UV rays, provide an elegant look, and allow a desirable view of outside scenery.
Another window covering option is to use two contrasting layers of sheers instead of one pair topped by drapes made from a heavier fabric. Or, use sheers over light drapery fabrics - creating interesting shadows. Strong drapery colors are diffused, paler colors and earth tones strengthened.
If window trim is natural wood, try wood mini blinds to enhance the look. Our 2 ½ inch wood blinds made from North American Basswood are 100% American made - from beginning to end, and are extremely competitively priced! The steel capped tilter prevents cords from unwinding and tangling; wood finish is UV retardant to eliminate fading and peeling.
When no light from windows is desired, select window features made from fabrics that prevent light penetration. Room darkening roller shades may be the perfect choice; they are cost-effective and come in a variety of color choices.
To create just the right window covering layered effect, select translucent sheers, quality light or heavy fabrics, and just the right window blind or interior window screen. Voile sheers hang gracefully and allow filtered light; linen adds an interesting contrast against sheers, while textured wool gives stylish and contemporary appeal.
Hang sheers and draperies from individual tracks. Hang mini blinds, cellular blinds, pleated blinds, or roller shades sized to fit just inside the window frame. Create just the right look…charming, elegant, sophisticated or down to earth.
Window coverings are an important part of room decor. Besides offering privacy, window blinds provide protection from outside heat; they prevent UV ray damage to furnishings, and they stop irritating window glare.
