The Benefits of Room Darkening Shades
There are several benefits to room darkening shades.
They block light
Room darkening shades can create the ambiance of night. This is helpful for those that work at night and need to sleep during the day. It is also helpful in a nursery or a childs room who nap during the day or wake with the first sight of daylight. They are also great for a media room. These shades will help reduce glare on TV's and computer screens and will protect furniture and carpet from fading.
They save energy
Blackout shades can trap heat in during the winter and keep light and heat out during the summer. Energy loss goes out windows, room darkening shades can curb this, reducing your utility bills.
You can choose from a variety of shades such as honeycomb cellular, bamboo and roman shades with a room darkening liner and roller shades. All these types of window treatments are designed to control or filter undesired light.
Keep in mind that the blackout quality of a window covering applies only to light trying to pass through the shade - you will also need to consider light going around the shade. For blinds ordered as inside mount, a small deduction will be taken from your ordered size by the manufacturer so that the blind will fit inside the window encasement; depending on your window depth and construction, light may crawl around the side of the blind. A drapery or side and sill system can help cover up this light leakage.
Another option is an outside mount shade. Please note that no direct sunlight will pass through the shade material, but there may still be a tinge of light around the edges of the shade.
