Faux Wood vs. Real Wood

We are often asked the difference between faux wood and real wood blinds. Lets first look at how they are both similar. Both types of blinds are effective at controlling outside light. The operating mechanisms will be the same regardless of faux or real wood. As far as the differences here are a few things to think about before you make your purchase.

Faux Wood:
Most are composed of vinyl, compressed polymer foam, or a wood composite made of compressed foam and wood chips
Simulate the look of wood but are moisture-proof
Won't warp in high humidity areas
Can be cleaned with water
Less expensive
Won't fade
More durable; great for people with pets or kids
Heavier than real wood

Real wood:
More color options
Lighter in weight; easier to raise and lower
Display the traits of actual wood including the grain and knots
Should be cleaned with a soft cloth or feather duster
Can warp if exposed to high moisture
More expensive

Which type you choose may depend on your budget and room location. Most importantly, be certain to choose a style and color that you know you love, they will be with you for years to come!
